Admit You Need It

Written by Donna Mitchell for The Life

“But He gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”– JAMES 4:6

LISTEN TO PODCAST:
Sometimes I find myself fighting against God. Fighting against the God I need desperately. The battle is within.James is familiar with the battle and challenges us to submit ourselves to God, reminding us that the war within is caused by our own desires. He minces no words when he calls us “adulterous people” who often become enemies of God because of our friendship with the world. But then James interrupts his train of thought….

“But He gives us more grace.” Pause and ponder that truth when your heart is fighting Him.

James then outlines how to get the grace we need from God. He says, “That is why Scripture says: ‘God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble’” The proud don’t think they need grace. Pride has earned its rights. Pride deserves. James reminds us that God resists the proud but He shows favor to the humble. The humble admit need. The humble agree with God that He is right and they are in need of grace.

Where do you find yourself? Would God oppose your posture today? Humble yourself to receive the grace you need. No matter where you have walked or the circumstances you find yourself in, remember: “He gives us more grace.”

In verse 7, James follows with “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and He will come near to you….” So, humble your heart and admit your need.O Lord, thank you that no matter my need, you give more grace. I humble myself before you and admit I need you…. I submit myself to you today and draw near to you. Thank you for your incredible grace. Amen.

Go Deeper — Examine the posture of your heart today. Would the Lord see your heart as proud and resistant, or as humble and submissive? Draw near to the Lord and thank Him for His immeasurable grace, admitting you need it.
