I taught “The Compass” in Grande Prairie, Alberta for a number of years. During that time several ladies gave their hearts to Jesus, as a direct result of the Scriptures written in “The Compass”!
This is by far the best outreach Bible study (I refer to it as a new life map) I have ever encountered or had the privilege to lead. The user friendly format was well received. The appeal to non-believers is not threatening but thought provoking. I know the Holy Spirit used every moment to draw each of others closer to Jesus and each other. We always opened in prayer leaving silence for the Holy Spirit to speak to us before starting.
We met in a local hotel – The Stonebridge Hotel in their restaurant once weekly for an hour. The staff were very accommodating, even though we took up about half the restaurant only drinking coffee! They were sad when we would stop for the summer months and pleased to see us return in the fall.
Gloria & I would deliberately pray with and for the staff, as well as the ladies in our groups. I particularly enjoyed the pace of “The Compass”– we did not have a preset number of pages per week – rather we went the pace of the members in each group. Naturally, that varied based on the ladies involved. I deliberately stopped at each scripture and each person in the group would put what it meant to her in her own words, without interpretation! Respecting each other’s rendering without comment we went on; stopping for personal questions only when we decided to stop for the day, by consensus everyone stayed until we had closed in prayer. It was truly an exhilarating time to watch lives transformed by this study. Each of the ladies would answer each of the questions herself, a tremendous panorama of faith!
God is glorified when we lift up the name of Jesus. Reflecting the life we have in Jesus is truly an honour. May the LORD bless each of you in His service.
