U-Turns and New Beginnings

Power to Change, Women’s Devotional By Donna Mitchell

“Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you. Show me where to walk, for I give myself to you. Rescue me from my enemies, LORD; I run to you to hide me. Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. May your gracious Spirit lead me forward on a firm footing. For the glory of your name, O LORD, preserve my life. Because of your faithfulness, bring me out of this distress. In your unfailing love, silence all my enemies and destroy all my foes, for I am your servant.” (Psalm 143:8-12, NLT)

Do you ever feel like starting over – from the beginning? Maybe you feel like somewhere along life’s journey you have taken a wrong turn and you want to get back on the right track. Maybe you feel like you have made such a mess of things that you just want to wipe the slate clean and start again.

When I was in Bible College, a friend had a poster on her wall that read, “God allows U-turns.” It impacted me – the Lord must have known that in my journey and relationship with Him, I would repeatedly need that message.

Most of the time, we do not have the luxury of changing our circumstances at will; however, new beginnings come with change in attitude.

As summer approaches, it is a great time to re-evaluate and reassess where we have been and where we are going. A new season can birth new beginnings – a time to reflect on our values and purpose so we may move forward with a fresh perspective.

Sometimes we need a renewed commitment to stay the course, to walk humbly by faith and not by sight, to trust Him even when the road is long and hard, to trust what He has shown us in the light, and to keep taking the next step. Sometimes we need to make a U-Turn to make sure we are still driving God’s road.

You can begin again, with a change of heart – a willingness to keep going, an acceptance of your situation as ordained by God. Prayerfully ask Him to help you to keep persevering through your everyday challenges and trials.

May the words of Psalm 143 help you to share your heart with the LORD and may He answer miraculously in due time!

Lord, “Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you. In your unfailing love, silence all my enemies and destroy all my foes, for I am your servant.” Amen.

Question: In what ways do you need to renew your commitment to follow Jesus?
