Craving a Reckless Faith

Donna MitchellHi Friends!

I attended The Journey this week – a retreat for hurting women, some just off the street. I received an email from the EFC this morning deeply concerned about yesterday’s decision by the Ontario Court of Appeal that “fails to protect women from exploitation and could lead to a situation in Canada where the most vulnerable are put at greater risk of violence, exploitation and trafficking.”

There are real people hurting in our world and the Lord is calling us to respond. I was arrested by the words in Nehemiah 4:14. There were enemies opposing the rebuilding of the walls. The people were praying as opposition arose against them. In Nehemiah 4:14 it says “Then as I (Nehemiah) looked over the situation, I called together the nobles and the rest of the people and said to them, ‘Don’t be afraid of the enemy! Remember the Lord, who is great and glorious, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes!’”

We also do not need to be afraid of the enemy. We too need to remember the Lord who is great and glorious, and we need to fight for those who cannot fight for themselves. We need to fight to share the love of God and the message of Jesus – the grace and freedom He brings – with those who are broken and marginalized in our world.

Our lives and their lives depend upon it. May we arise, stand firm and fight. He is with us. He is in us. He is making His appeal through us. He will do it. Let’s follow Him into a hurting world.

Verse of the Month

“The angel spoke to the women. ‘Don’t be afraid!’ he said. ‘I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen.’” (Matt. 28:5-6, NIV)”

Quote of the Month

(Quoting a professor) “The only exercise that works 100 percent of the time to draw one close to the real God, is to risk.”…

Jennie continues to write…”I started craving…a reckless faith, a faith where I knew God was real because I needed Him, a faith where I lived surrendered, obedient, a faith where I sacrificed something…comfort or safety or practicality…”  ~ Jennie Allen, Anything: the prayer that unlocked my God and my Soul

Faith Adventure: My Loaves and Fishes, by Susan Miller

breadI would like to relate a day in my life about 4 months ago. It was a Monday, the day I usually meet the team at the jail in Fort Saskatchewan. I had to work that day, which was not unusual, as I often work Mondays. So, that meant I had to get all my work done before lunch. My last job of the day typically is to give medication to the seniors while they are having lunch, usually around 11:30 am. But this particular day, lunch was not served until almost noon, which meant I had just lost about 30 minutes off an already tight schedule. I quickly gave out the meds, changed my clothes, and headed to Fort Saskatchewan, knowing full well I would never make it there on time.

Needless to say, I was a little upset. OF ALL DAYS, they had to pick this day to serve lunch late. As I was driving down the highway, my mind was going about as fast as my vehicle, and not with happy, positive thoughts.

By the time I got to the jail, I had come to the conclusion that I probably should quit coming altogether and would tell Sandy (the team leader) after the meeting. After all, I was sure she hated me being late and probably wanted to “Fire Me,” but wasn’t quite sure how to go about it. So, I would save her some time and grief and volunteer my retirement.           Read more
