As They Pass By

Donna MitchellHi Friends!

I was greatly encouraged and challenged re-reading the story of Gideon beginning in Judges 6. He did not see himself in a positive light – “My clan is the weakest in the whole tribe…and I am the least in my entire family!” But the Lord saw Gideon as a mighty hero, one who would save Israel, because the Lord said “I will be with you.”

Gideon’s response was to bow in worship and step out in obedience. Gideon expressed his fear by asking for a fleece. The Lord did not condemn him for asking, but answered his prayer and confirmed His calling on Gideon.

As Gideon stepped out in faith, the intensity increased. Through a series of screening processes, the Lord reduced Gideon’s army from 32,000 to 300. He had less than 10% left. It was impossible circumstances, but the Lord wanted Gideon and his men to know that it was God and His strength that would save them, and not their own. The Lord wants us to know the same.

The Lord had a plan to use the weakest and the least to deliver Israel. Gideon and his men had to step out in obedience, endure the fight, and work hard. In fact, the Scriptures say they were exhausted – but they followed through. The Lord did as He had promised, too, and proved His faithfulness once again. He brought the victory and the deliverance by His power and strength!

Wherever you are walking or whatever the Lord has called you to do…His strength is made perfect in our weakness. He wants us to depend upon Him, and He is able to do immeasurably more than we could ask or think – in us and through us! May Gideon’s story bring you great encouragement today!

Blessings,

Donna Mitchell, Director, Connecting Streams Women’s Ministry

Video of the Month:

As They Pass ByHave you ever wondered why it is so hard to talk to your neighbors and friends about the Gospel? You are not alone. TruthMedia’s (another ministry division of Power to Change) small film crew set out to interview 300 people about faith, fear, and whether or not Canada is ready for the Gospel. Over 14,000 kilometers and 300 interviews later, they had an answer. The story is only 19 minutes long, but it will change the way you see the people around you. Click here to watch the video.
